Women's History Month Guide Overview
Welcome to the Women's History Month guide.
This guide highlights resources for learning more about women's studies, women's issues, and other topics relating to women. The tabs link to pages with books & ebooks, articles & databases, videos, links, and other resources. There will be an associated display in the Blume Library running from March 1st to March 31st, 2012.
This guide also includes information about the Women's History Month observances at St. Mary's University. These events occur every March and run throughout the month of May. Take a look at the Women's History Month page by the University's Women's History Month Committee for more information on the month long celebration.
I encourage you to visit the Blume Library to view the display, check out materials, and use tools on this guide to learn more about the women's studies and Women's History Month.
Women's History Month Established
"By 1986, 14 states had already declared March as Women's History Month. This momentum and state-by-state action was used as the rational to lobby Congress to declare the entire month of March 1987 as National Women's History Month. In 1987, Congress declared March as National Women's History Month in perpetuity. A special Presidential Proclamation is issued every year which honors the extraordinary achievements of American women."
